Lewis County Animal Shelter

**NOTICE**IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL OUR ANIMALS ARE SPAYED/NEUTERED BEFORE GOING HOME WITH YOU. IN MOST CASES THAT MEANS A RETURN TRIP FOR YOU TO PICK UP YOUR PET IN A DAY OR TWO, AFTER YOU ADOPT. SURGERY IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE.

FEES:
Dogs $65 (or less if sponsored)
Cats $60 (or less if sponsored)
Lewis County Residents $5 off adoption fees.
Large breed dogs, and adult cats, turned in by owners, already altered, & fees paid, are only $30 to adopt.

We are contracted with local Veterinarians and animals do not leave here until they have been altered. We prefer cash or check as payment, but can now take credit or debit, as well.

Surgery is included in the adoption fee, and all pets are spayed or neutered before going to new homes. They have also had a set of vaccinations. Cats are only adopted out if they test negative for feline leukemia.

SPONSERSHIP:  If you see an animal that you fall in love with, and would like to sponsor them for adoption, give us a call. You can tell us what amount you would like to sponsor, then either mail a check, or have the amount put on your debit or credit card. Any amount helps, and often helps an animal find a new home faster!

HOURS
Monday through Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm
Closed Sunday

The Shelter is for strays, but we do take owner surrenders. We are contracted with small area towns to take their strays. All animals are held for 72 hours and then put up for adoption. We do euthanize, but only when we run out of kennel space or in the case of unadoptable animals.

DONATIONS of cash, or items such as cat litter, cleaning supplies, and towels and blankets are always appreciated!

VOLUNTEERS are needed for walking dogs, bathing puppies, and giving lots of love and attention to the animals. After you have been a volunteer for a few months, you may be interested in providing a foster home for young pups or kittens. Sometimes puppies or kittens get turned into the shelter that are too young to be adopted so they need to leave the shelter and go into a home for a few days or weeks. This gives them the chance to get bigger and stronger before being adopted out at 8 weeks. Sometimes foster care is their only chance to survive.

Volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation class. The class is offered at the shelter the first Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. or the third Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. Children must be at least 12 years old and attend the orientation class to volunteer at the shelter without a parent present. Children under 12 are allowed to volunteer at the shelter, but only if a parent attends the orientation meeting with them and is with them the entire time they volunteer. Please call  740-1290 to make sure there have been no changes to the orientation times.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Take I-5 to exit 79, Chamber Way. Turn east off the freeway, then take a left at the last stoplight you come to, when the road ends. (It is a very short road) Get in the right hand lane, and turn right on Coal Creek Rd. just around the curve. There is a blue animal shelter sign at the turn. Follow Coal Creek for 4 1/2 miles until you come to the stop sign. You then turn left on Centralia-Alpha Rd. We are about 2 miles down the road on the left. Our address is 560 Centralia-Alpha Rd, so start checking mailboxes and you will know when you are close.

SPECIAL NOTE: Pet Connection helps low income Lewis County residents get their animals spayed/neutered at much lower rates. Help us reduce the need for euthanizing any animal by stopptin the problem before it begins. Give Pet Connection a call today  and help save more lives by having your pets altered now. Please call Pet connection at 748-6236 and help stop the overpopulation problem.

**PLEASE CONSIDER ADOPTING AN ADULT CAT THIS YEAR! WE HAVE SO MANY WONDERFUL ADULTS, AND MANY WILL NOT FIND HOMES, BECAUSE PEOPLE ALWAYS TAKE KITTENS INSTEAD. WOULDN'T YOU RATHER HAVE A LOVING ADULT TO CUDDLE WITH, INSTEAD OF A CURTAIN CLIMBING KITTEN?**
